Are household cleaners toxic to cats?

Many are. Toilet, drain and surface cleaners, bleach and disinfectants can burn a cat's mouth and throat and make them ill. Cats are often poisoned by licking wet surfaces or their paws.
Signs to watch for
- Heavy drooling, difficulty breathing, vomiting, and chemical burns to the mouth and throat.
How cats get exposed
- Wet floors and surfacesCats can lick treated surfaces, or walk on them and lick their paws. Wipe up excess liquid and keep your cat out until it's dry.
- If it's on their fur or pawsWash the product off with water and call your vet straight away.
