Is a peace lily toxic to cats?

Also called: Spathiphyllum, Mauna Loa peace lily

Toxic

Irritates the mouth and stomach. It does not cause kidney failure, and serious problems are rare.

It's listed as toxic to cats, but it's much milder than true lilies. Chewing it releases crystals that cause mouth pain, drooling and vomiting. Serious problems are very rare.

Signs to watch for

  • Mouth irritation and burning, heavy drooling, vomiting and difficulty swallowing.

Why it's dangerous

  • The plant contains insoluble calcium oxalate crystals that are released when it is chewed.
