Is a Peruvian lily toxic to cats?

Also called: Alstroemeria, lily of the Incas, princess lily

Caution

Not a true lily. It may cause mild stomach upset but not kidney damage.

It's much safer than true lilies. ASPCA lists it as non-toxic, but other sources say it can cause mild stomach upset, so we mark it caution.

When it's a problem

  • Eating it may cause vomiting or diarrhoea that settles on its own. It is not expected to damage the kidneys or other organs.

When to call a vet

  • Peruvian lilies look like true lilies and are used in the same bouquets. If you aren't sure which lily your cat touched, call your vet straight away.
